Vancouver - Canada

December 2nd

Skiing in Vancouver - it's fantastic!!!

Snow, snow, snow and this weekend also sun.

As promised last week we went skiing again today. This time the bus went to Cypress - the local favorite.

We can definitely see why!

Everything just worked for us today. No waiting for either the seabus, the bus or to buy tickets. So at 10 AM we were ready.

200 cm snow base, it was approximately -2 °C and it was all blue sky, nice eh!?

The size of the area is a bit bigger than Grouse and the slopes are located on two sides of two different mountains. There is not much to say - we thought we had seen the most beautiful view in the world at Grouse Mountain, but boy were we wrong. Cypress has the view that makes everything else fade – from one mountain side you can see some of the city of Vancouver, mostly Kitsilano and UBC. You can't see it on this picture, as it is below the skies, but they disappeared later and it's there - promise :-)

But from another mountain side you can see all the southern Islands and Vancouver Island. It's absolutely amazing :-)

After a couple of hours we were hungry, but because of the view and the weather, lunch could be enjoyed on the slope.

While we were eating we could enjoy people jumping on their snowboard (and falling....)

After 5 full hours on the slope our legs couldn't handle anymore of the crazy, beautiful white slopes and we headed down with our skies. As there were an our to the shuttle bus went back we decided to go to the café and have a burger.

Just after we ate the burger, the shuttle bus startet to fill and we got on the first to leave. Of course to end the perfect day the seabus was waiting for us when we got to the harbour, so at 6 PM we were home safely after the best day in Canada yet :-)

From now on all we'll see the next month is books..as if... it's going to be slopes... so if you wish to take a look at a couple of the pictures without snow, take a look here: Vancouver part 1 and if you wish to read about our trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains take a look here: Vancouver part 2. Or if you want to dream away to fantastic Pender Island or Vancouver Island take a look here: Pender Island and Vancouver Island. To get a glimpse of a trip we had to the beautiful campus at UBC click here: University of British Columbia. You can also see how it went down when Inger and Aksel were here visiting: Visitors from Denmark. Finally you can see the fall and winter in Vancouver pages here: Fall in Vancouver and Winter in Vancouver.

Also - if you wish to download the best 117 pictures from our trip to the Canadian Rockies you can download them here: Pictures
The file is zipped and the size is 132 mb so it takes a while to download them.
