Vancouver - Canada

August 24th

Hi again. We’re back from an amazing trip through the Canadian Rockies!!
The following is a kind of diary of what we experienced on our trip with loots of loots of pictures.

Our trip was in an Chevrolet Malibu Maxx 3.5 V6 – nice car with lots of power for the mountains – not the prettiest but it drove 3.000 km up and down without any problems – so that must be a thumbs up.

First stop on our trip was Harrison Hot Springs. Hmm...there was a nice big lake and a sand building competition - but we couldn't find the hot springs...maybe there was no one there?? Well we didn't bother find out and drove on shortly after a quick couple of pictures - here's one just below. It seems like not the best weather but it was actually ok.

It was great being on the road and we enjoyed it...proof??

After driving about 300 km we found a camping site. And then the fun began...because apparently we was not the best prepared to eehh - you know - the camping stuff J
1. Our tent was molten because we put it down when it was wet
2. Apparently we did not take the tent pecks with us
3. The pump we bought to our air madresses did not fit
Anyway - we managed...

And our camping site was just up to a road with trucks driving all night - a good thing we remembered ear plugs!!
It did have very nice little creek as you can see below.

Well!! our roadtrip continued - through the beautiful nature of Canada.

On your trip we came through nice cozy villages...

Where there was a car show.

And other crazy stuff...

For the second night we found a better camp site. It was called illucilluueett....or something like that...

A nice place where we actually saw our first animal... a nice little skunk.
Meanwhile the nature and the views just became prettier and prettier as shown below. Acturally we saw our first bear on the second day - a sweet little bear walking on the side of a mountain. Sorry to say we did not get any pictures of the bear...

On the third day we arrived to Radium Hot Springs. This time we where quite sure there was some hot springs around here somewhere...and fortunately we were right. Hot water right from the ground - weird and nice with a nice bath in 44C degrees.
In Radium we decided to can our old tent because of the smell and the missing parts...not a difficult decision.
We have a couple of pictures from Radium. First a happy guy with a braaand neeew tent:

And then a picture of the view from our camp site. It was actually so nice we decided to stay there 2 days.

The fourth day was actually the day when Eva-Marie became an aunt for the second time - to little Emma-Marie!! Congratulations!!

After 2 days at Radium Hot Springs we were well-rested as you can see...

Now the real Canadian Rockies began - first with a little warning:

Crazy stuff. But we continued our journey to Banff in the southern part of the rockies. This is the largest city in the rockies with lots of tourists. But it is not so weird the little town attracts so many people.

It was also here we met the first very tame animals. Here's a big horn sheep - also known as "en gaaaal vædder!!!".

From everywhere you look in Banff you see beautiful landscapes and mountains. Here is Bow River and Vermillion Lakes. It is difficult to describe how beautiful it was - it was really amazing.

Close to Banff is also Lake Minnewanka - one of (if not the) largest lake in the Canadian Rockies. Very beautiful with mountains on both sides. Because we were in such high altitudes the clouds would come down and almost touch the lake.

The camp site we found was called Two Jack Campground because of a little lake not far from the campground. We stayed at the Two Jack Campground but unfortunately it was not anything special. The lake itself was however very beautiful.

By the lake we found some cute little ground squirrels - they look very nice and sweet but wait to you hear the horror story later on...then you think "not that sweet, eh".

In Banff was also the waterfall Bow Falls. It was pretty wide and had good spots for fishing. Again this had some amazing surroundings.

Early the next morning we drove down to Two Jack Lake to have our little breakfast (an apple, a corn cookie and som juice). As you can se the lake was even more spectacular in the morning.

The next stop on the trip was Lake Louise. Here we had the most beautiful hike on the whole trip. It was a hike around Lake Louise and up to Mirror Lake and Lake Agnes. It was fantastic. First a picture of Lake Louise. The color of the lake was green from the water which comes from the glaciers you can see in the background of the picture.

We walked up and up and up and came to Mirror Lake. The because it reflected clearly the mountains that surrounded the lake.

We walked up and more up - here's a picture looking down at Lake Louise. It's easy to see the green color of the water.

At the top was Lake Agnes - really amazing there's a lake in such altitudes!!

And now to a very dark and shocking story. The squirrels was use to be fed and one of the little buggers couldn't resist Rasmus's cookie. It tried; up on the table > on Rasmus's shoulder > cookie. But the mouse won and the cookie stay with Rasmus. Still - here's a little picture of the fearsome animal.

Juuust one last picture from the hike around Lake Louise and we'll move on...

On the next day we drove to the Takaka Falls. This is the most spectacular Waterfall in the Canadian Mountains. It is about 250 metres high and is fantastic - really spectacular.

Now we had to find a camp site. For the first time we found a site were we had to walk about 300 metres to get to site - but it was worth it!! Here's a picture taken from our camp site...pretty nice, eh?!

Of course we stayed at the camp site a few days. From here we drove to The Natural Bridge. A bridge water have made - i believe it took a couple of years... J

We were also at Emerald Lake. The name because of the incredible color as you clearly see.

We continued our trip towards the town of Jasper. Here's a picture from the road.

Halfway to Jasper was the incredible Columbia Icefields. We were in more than 2.000 metres altitude so every step was a bit hard. On the next picture you see Athabasca Glacier which is a big part of the Columbia Icefield.

It was actually possible to walk on the glacier as you can see on the next picture down in the right corner. Pretty wild!!

In the icefields we also found the vehicle for our next trip...

We arrived to Jasper and the weather was good the most of the time. But it was also pretty weird sometimes...

After Jasper we went home. On the the way we drove pass the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. It was Mount Robson with its almost 4.000 metres. Maybe it won't show clearly - but it was VERY high!!

NOOOW - to the last picture... a picture of a "sweet little" bear. We saw it on our way home after Mount Robson. It was just sitting there watching the cars on the road. If I hadn't pulled Eva-Marie back in the car she would have gone up to it and hugged it... maybe it would like that...and maybe not...J
